STMC Releases Real Shots of Cryogenic Deflashing for Silicone O-Rings: Say Goodbye to Rough Flash

In the rubber sealing products industry, flash (also called burrs) is a key factor in judging O-ring quality. Even tiny flash affects not only the look of the product but can also cause sealing failure, leading to serious equipment leaks.

Recently, STMC shared a set of real photos showing the cryogenic deflashing process for silicone O-rings. These images clearly show how we use high-precision cryogenic deflashing technology to solve the problem of removing burrs from silicone parts. This allows us to provide high-quality, flash-free seals for the hydraulic, pneumatic, and precision electronics industries.

Real Shots: From Rough Flash to Smooth Perfection

In our latest comparison photos, you can clearly see the big difference in silicone O-rings before and after deflashing:

- Before deflashing:The O-ring has a thin, visible layer of flash along its edge. This is a leftover from the molding process. The rough edge not only looks bad but also creates a sealing risk.

- After deflashing:The cryogenic deflashing process gives the product a clean, smooth surface with sharp edges and no scratches or nicks. Even under a magnifying glass, the surface keeps the soft, fine texture of silicone. There are no wear marks like those left by traditional grinding wheels.

How It Works: The Precision of Liquid Nitrogen Cryogenic Deflashing

1. Low-Temperature Embrittlement:Liquid nitrogen quickly cools the silicone O-rings to a very low temperature. At this temperature, the thin flash becomes hard and brittle (like glass) because it is thin and loses heat fast. However, the main body of the ring stays elastic because it is thicker.

2. High-Speed Blasting: The embrittled parts are placed in a closed deflashing machine. The machine spins fast and blasts media (like polycarbonate pellets or special shots) against the parts.

3. Perfect Separation:The brittle flash breaks off and falls away upon impact. The elastic O-ring body remains completely undamaged.

Why Choose Cryogenic Deflashing? It Does More Than Just Remove Flash

These real photos show the clear advantages of STMC’s cryogenic deflashing process:

- High precision:Removes only the flash, without damaging the part itself. Perfect for precision silicone O-rings.

- High efficiency:One batch can be processed much faster than manual work. This greatly shortens delivery times.

- Cost savings:Although there is initial equipment cost, cryogenic tooling saves about 20% in material waste compared to traditional tear-off tooling. This lowers production costs over time.

- Handles complex shapes: For inner burrs or complex seal shapes, manual work is difficult. But cryogenic blasting cleans all sides without blind spots.
